Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Claims Involving Player Rashee Rice

The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment on Wednesday evening confirming they are aware of domestic violence allegations circulated in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and were in contact with the NFL.

The team omitted the name of the player specifically in their statement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Claims Posted on Social Media

The woman, who also did not mention the athlete directly, shared a set of images on Instagram that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. She did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with the football player, whom the Chiefs drafted in the 2023 draft.

Police Reports Reportedly Not on File

No police reports were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.

Player's Prior Legal Issues

Rice was absent for the first six games of this season due to an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that resulted in multiple people injured. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.

On the field, Rice finished the season with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
