The Cottagers Start Strong to Defeat Tottenham and Increase Pressure on the Manager
Spurs supporters who booed keeper Guglielmo Vicario were informed afterwards "they cannot be true Spurs supporters" by boss Thomas Frank.
Spurs let in a pair of goals in the opening six minutes to lose 2-1 to their opponents, registering their tenth Premier League at home loss of the year.
But the primary topic of discussion was the visitors' next score when the keeper gave away possession well beyond his box.
He came out to deal with a long ball and took the ball near the touchline.
However, instead of booting it into touch, the Italian spun and attempted to clear, but lost his footing as the ball glanced off Wilson and was collected by Josh King.
The forward laid the ball off to Welsh midfield player Wilson, who curled a strike into the goal from the sideline recorded at thirty-six point six yards.
Moments afterwards when the ball went to the keeper once more, some Tottenham fans booed him.
The team were jeered off at half-time, with the club 2-0 down, and again at full-time.
One of those jeering episodes truly angered Frank.
"It came to my attention some of our fans apparently jeered the situation and booed after, which, in my opinion is completely unacceptable," the Danish manager stated about the fans' reaction to his shot-stopper.
"Those individuals can't be true Spurs supporters that do that. Fair enough jeering after the game, fine, but when we are in play, we are supporting one another, we are with each other moving ahead."
Kenny Tete had given the visitors a fourth-minute advantage before Wilson's goal – with Mohammed Kudus scoring for Tottenham in an improved second-half performance.
Ex- Premier League goalkeeper Joe Hart stated that the second score was "completely avoidable".
"I do understand the fans' disappointment," Hart continued. "I am aware the role Vicario is playing. He is a excellent team player, he's a true figure in the locker room but ultimately you are going to be assessed by your decisions.
"The keeper was heavily implicated in what turned out to be the winning goal."
Thomas Frank Defended His Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario Following the Match
Italian international Vicario is in his 3rd season with Spurs.
He said after the game that he had to accept the criticism.
"The second score was a error of my own, I accept responsibility for that," he commented.
"My aim was to clear the ball long and I just struck the ball in a bad manner. That made an even bigger challenge to climb."
He stated receiving jeers "is part of football".
"I am mature, how can I respond?" he continued. "The team can't be affected by the situation in the crowd. The fans have the entitlement to do as they see fit.
"It is on us to stay increasingly calm, to focus on our own performance. The team is missing in calmness and poise to overturn results. This match is a bad defeat and it's hard to take."
In spite of Vicario's mistake, it was far from an easy goal for Wilson to score.
Actually it was the next longest-range Premier League score of the campaign – following Adams' 43.3 yard strike for Bournemouth against Sunderland, which incidentally too occurred on the same day.
The goalscorer said he was "somewhat surprised" that he still had an empty net to aim for.
10 seconds passed between Vicario exiting of his box and the midfielder striking – which was five seconds following the clearance.
"It seemed to me like the keeper was out of the box for a long time," Wilson remarked.
"I was surprised none of the back four returned to the line. When none of them covered the net, my interest lit up a bit.
"Udogie fell too, which gave me a little extra time. After that it was solely about attempting to achieve the correct connection and place it towards goal. I had a positive sense, as soon as it left my boot, that it was heading in."
Booing While We Are Still Playing Is Completely Unacceptable - the Manager
While the keeper's error led headlines, this was an all-round poor performance for Spurs to continue their home ground woes.
This was their tenth at home defeat of the year in the league, a joint team statistic matching 1994 and 2003.
The side still have home fixtures against Frank's former club Brentford and title holders the Reds to play prior to the close of the season.
Just a single of those victories have occurred since Frank replaced his predecessor in the summer.
"When you're behind 2-0 after the opening, there is a mountain to climb," stated the boss.
"During in a bad spell, all aspects appears to go against you too – the first was a redirected shot, the next is a mistake from the keeper.
"This result leaves us in a position where we have lost an additional match. Each fixture has a unique narrative, this game we were defeated in the early stages.
"We simply need to continue striving. The later period was significantly improved and hopefully something we can utilize to learn."
Tottenham have been defeated in 4 consecutive home London derbies for the initial time in the top division.
Furthermore they are averaging nine point five shots and 3.2 efforts on goal per game in the division – their lowest averages on record in a one season (dating back to the 2003-04 season).
Former Cottagers midfielder Murphy commented that the manager has to endure the criticism.
"He's got accept the criticism," Murphy said. "He's taken a high profile job at a huge football club with enormous expectation. There is pressure and duty that accompanies that.
"The performances at home have been poor and they have to improve {quickly|
